Finale!

Well, I plan on portaying myself as a professional. I will be creating a Linked-In page, which is a site for professionals. I want to create a profile displaying my work in the journalism world so far.



I plan on using my resume, a youtube video by broadcasting class just recently created, some pictures, an a link to the Round Up website where you can look up my work with the paper. If I can't figure that out, then I will scan some of my articles, and plan on puttting them on the site.

Group Identity Project

So.....our group identity project is a Myspace page for the awesome man John Walsh of America's Most Wanted...

For our Myspace page we will be performing a professional aspect for his identity. John Walsh is using Myspace to stay connected with those searching for children who have been abducted and missing. He wants to adovacte the right to find these children and help find anyone who is currently missing.

We are performing to the masses. We want everyone to join John Walsh's campaign to caputre America's Most Wanted and get them behind bars. We want to increase recognition for John Walsh and his idea to network in order to find people.

Our goals for this performance include educating those who are not sure about the dangers of child abduction and advocating for the campaign to put America's Most Wanted behind bars. We also want myspace users to know who the real professional John Walsh is.

I think Joshn Walsh would approve because we are representing him in a professional manner. We think that America's Most Wanted is a great program and his campaign to find those missing is an excellent advocacy. He would approve because myspace has millions of users; therefore, he can use it to find predators!!

Workin' Thesis...

Through the social communication tool known as Facebook, my identity, on and offline, is affected by the ability to share and communicate the several aspects of my life and ideas with other users. By staying connected with friends, Facebook allows me to present and distinguish my identity through pictures, comments, and instant messaging.


Ehh...it's a work in progress!

Medium Analysis....List

When I think about technology and communication, the first thing that pops into mind is....

1)Facebook -I have friends, who live away from Las Cruces and this is one thing I know my friends will check daily.
2)My email accounts -this communication tool is something I use everyday. For the dance company, Dancers Unlimited, we use email in order to communicate with eachother and get important information to each other. I also use it in order to complete my assignments for the Round Up.
3) Myspace -even though this online community isn't as important to me as Facebook, there's people on Myspace who aren't on Facebook, so I still keep it updated in order to communicate with others.

These communication tools are something that I use often...I usually check them more them once during the day....so I think one of these will be apart of medium analysis.

I think I want to mostly focus on Facebook because I'm constantly checking it out and doing stuff on it! Yay!

Ya Dig Digital

Thinking about my life and technology, I would say I'm a digital native when it comes to the Internet, computer programs (power point, excel) and photoshop/digital pictureness. Also, with my I-pod, I believe I'm a digital native because my mom (bless her heart) has no idea how it works. She just likes the radio... : )

But when it comes to creating Web sites or figuring out how to do intricit stuff on line, I'm a digital immigrant.

I have no clue how Half-life works and I never used to blog before this class (which I'm still trying to figure out--uploaded a picture..yeah!) And when it came to my computer class in high school, I was very much a digital immigrant considering we were learning how to create Web sites and Internet cool stuff. Thinking back on a time in my education was when I was digital immigrant compared to my peers was in this class. Half of the time I had to turn to my neighbor and make sure first if I was even on the right step and second if I was doing it correctly, but my teacher, surprsingly knew what she was talking about, so I could turn to her for tech-y support!

My Technological Vida

Technology has been a part of my life since I can remember...

Past: Apple Computer with the huge screen and long keyboard. Papers were printed with the long reamed paper that was perforated, so you had to tear off the sides.
Next, we had a Gateway, with the huge tower that sat right next to the monitor. I remember this computer because it had a lot of problems that my mother could never fix.
I also remember playing the Oregon Trail and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, when I was younger. It was treat to play these games during school, which I enjoyed very much.
After, my family stuck with the Gateway for quite a while. I created my first email account when I was in the eighth grade and remember chatting on MSN messenger when I became a freshman. In middle school, I was apart of a publications class, where we created the news letter on Microsoft Word and did our yearbook by hand. We taped picture to paper and made collages like any other normal person would.
During high school, I had a typing class, which was straight typing on old Apple computers, but after my school emerged into technology, I was able to learn more about computers. My senior year, I was on the yearbook staff, where I was introduced to Indesign. After graduation, I got my first laptop, which is a Dell (sorry Mac lovers)! and my first every digital camera!

Just recently, I upgraded to a newer Dell laptop and have been using different types of technology at college. I learned how to create certain programs during my Computer Science introductory class. I also upgraded to a different type of digital camera as well!

For the future, even though people say newspaper will die, I have a feeling (being a part of the journalist community) that I will have to start typing online. I think I will have to start looking at jobs that offer writing online with the way mainstream technology is heading. I don't mind it, but having something in print to hold on to is best for me!

Needless to say, technology has always been a big part of my life!

Discourse Communities

A discourse community I'm involved with is the dance community. We do have our own type of language considering most dance moves are French words. I have been involved with dance since I was 3, so I have been a part of this community for quite a while. Even though, some men are involved in dance, I have noticed in that is mostly a female populated discourse community. Women are more likely to be involved with dance because it mostly associated with prancing around, pointing toes, being graceful..etc, mostly female qualities that men do not like to associate with. Men perfer to be strong, rough and tough! However, there are some men that do dance...I think it's mostly toward the female gender!
